How to stay true to crypto and blockchain ideals

At Escrow Protocol, we’re not big fans of crypto and blockchain projects that have only been designed with making money in mind (we aren’t afraid to have an opinion on scams and rug-pulls either!).

That’s why we evaluate projects based on merit and how they stick to the original ideals of cryptocurrency such as:

Decentralisation — the removal of reliance on centralised power structures so enjoyed by the banks and bankers

Community-governance — shareholders enjoy voting privileges

Public ledgers on the blockchain — searchable, traceable transaction information that is public

Anonymity — using as little identity data as possible

Peer-to-peer — enabling data sharing between local machines rather than to and from centralised servers.

Trustless transactions and much more.

With this in mind, we think it is a shame — but not highly unsurprising — that so many projects code and deploy on public, centralised clouds.

When we think about the way we run our DAO (Decentralised Autonomous Organisation) and the exciting roadmap we are charging through, we like to think that we’re part of the solution, not part of the problem.

When certain crypto projects do not embrace the ideals of the blockchain and cryptocurrency, we don’t believe they’re being:

Credible — we do what we say we are going to do, and that means remaining true to who we are. This means that if we’re championing decentralisation, we can’t be paying fees to centralised cloud providers.

Authoritative — to become thought leaders in the space, we need to have original thoughts, and this includes being open, honest and clear about our goals and how we are achieving them. We will not simply do what everyone else is doing.

They do, however, manage to maintain visibility, only one of three characteristics we think are important to the success of crypto projects.

In our series about Becoming A DAO we will, in a fully-transparent way, outline the steps that we are taking on the journey and we hope you will share it with us — we’re very excited about the future.
